Stop wasting time on bad content briefs

Writing a great content brief takes time and effort. Busy managers often can’t build one from scratch, which leads to weak briefs, painful revisions, and content that misses the mark. This template is the shortcut. It’s designed to help you gather all the essential information in minutes, so you can get it right from day one. It gives writers the clarity they need and managers the results they expect.

Why do you need a properly working content brief form?

Paying a writer doesn’t mean they’ll magically guess every detail about your brand. Content Brief and Content Research are two different things. A brief gives the writer brand context: voice, USP, goals, target audience, and insider information. It supports their content research and makes the writing process smoother. The whole point is to help the writer produce content that aligns with your brand and delivers the best possible outcome.

If your brand has a proper content strategy, these elements are documented at the beginning. Once the system is in place, you don’t waste time explaining the same context over and over again. It protects consistency, clarity, and budget.

Moreover, when you work with a writer long-term, most brief elements eventually become default. They don’t need to be repeated for every article.

But if there’s no dedicated content lead, things can feel messy. In that case, a freelance writer can schedule a short call before starting and ask the questions in that brief. This helps both sides move faster and stay aligned.

Great content always starts with a great content brief. It may look like extra effort at first, but it cuts chaos, speeds up collaboration, and saves money in the long run.

The form I’m sharing comes in both Notion and Google Doc format. Adapt it to your workflow and content habits. It’s a solid starting point.
